Delete your account
Last updated · 30 Apr 2026SplitEasy gives you two ways to delete your account and the data tied to it. Both wipe everything within seven days. There's no "are you sure" maze.
Option 1 — From inside the app
- Open SplitEasy.
- Tap Settings (top-right of the home screen).
- Scroll to Delete account at the bottom of the Account screen.
- Confirm with the OTP code we send — to your email if you signed in with email (the default on iOS), or to your WhatsApp number on Android.
The deletion runs immediately on our backend. The app drops your local data and signs you out.
Option 2 — By email
If you've lost access to the email or phone number on the account, email spliteasy@uncle-z.com from any address and tell us either identifier you signed up with. We'll wipe everything within 7 calendar days and reply when it's done.
What gets deleted
- Your account record (the hashed email or phone number used to sign in).
- Every bill, item, person, and saved group on your account.
- Every persistent group, trip, ledger, and settle-up record.
- Every recurring split template.
- Every saved payment method.
- Every receipt photo in our S3 bucket.
- Your active session token (you'll be signed out on every device).
What we keep, and for how long
- Subscription receipts — we keep the encrypted Apple/Google original transaction id for 7 years to comply with tax + audit law. It's not linked back to a phone or a name once the account row is gone, so it can't be used to identify you.
- Anonymized server logs — request timestamps and HTTP status codes (no IPs, no payloads) are kept for 30 days for ops debugging, then rolled out.
- OTP attempt counters — kept for 24 hours after the last attempt to slow down brute-force, then deleted.
Nothing else. No "soft delete" with your data sitting in a backup forever.
Just want to delete some bills, not the whole account?
You don't need to delete your account for that. Inside the app:
- Delete a single bill — Settings → History → swipe / tap a bill → Delete.
- Delete a saved group — Settings → Saved groups → tap a group → Remove.
- Delete a payment method — Settings → Payment methods → tap → Remove.
- Delete a ledger / trip / recurring — open the entry → Edit → Delete.
Local edits propagate to the cloud on the next sync.
