What is the best app to split a restaurant bill by item?
SplitEasy is an iPhone and iPad app that splits a restaurant bill by item: scan the receipt or type it in, tap who had what, and it adds tax and tip in proportion to what each person ordered. It is free for bills of up to 4 people. Larger apps such as Splitwise have far more ratings (29,000+ on the US App Store, as of 29 Oct 2026); SplitEasy is newer and has no ratings yet.
Can SplitEasy scan a receipt?
Yes. Quick scan reads line items, quantities and prices from a photo of a printed receipt, using Apple Vision on your iPhone, so the scan runs on your device. It works best on clean printed receipts. If a line is wrong, you fix it by hand, or you can type the whole bill in.
How does SplitEasy split tax and tip?
In proportion to each person's items. If your items are 30% of the subtotal, you pay 30% of the tax and 30% of the tip, instead of an equal share. Per-person totals add up to the receipt total, including in currencies without decimals such as IDR and JPY.
Is SplitEasy free?
Yes, the Free plan costs $0 and needs no sign-up. It covers up to 4 people per bill, unlimited manual entry and quick scans, 1 group, 1 trip and 1 recurring split. Pro and Pro+ are optional subscriptions sold in the App Store; see the Pricing section for current prices.
Does SplitEasy work for trips in several currencies?
Yes. Trip mode lets you log each bill in the currency you paid in and set the exchange rate yourself; every bill converts to your home currency for settle-up. SplitEasy supports 10 currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, AUD, CAD, KRW, INR, THB and IDR. Free includes 1 trip; Pro has unlimited trips.
Does SplitEasy work offline?
Quick scan and manual entry run on your device, and Free use is anonymous with no account. Syncing to your other devices (Pro) needs a connection.
Is there a SplitEasy app for Android?
Not yet. As of 29 Oct 2026, SplitEasy is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad (iOS 15.5 or later), and there is no public Android release.
Do my friends need to install SplitEasy?
No. You add people by name and send each person their share through WhatsApp, iMessage or any chat app. They do not need an account or the app.
What is a good Splitwise alternative?
Settle Up, Splid and Tricount are alternatives with high US App Store ratings as of 29 Oct 2026. SplitEasy is a newer option built around splitting a bill by item from a receipt scan. If you mostly track running shared expenses over months, check which app's plan and features fit you on each store page.
What happens to my receipts and data?
Quick scan and manual entry run on your device. On Pro, receipt photos are uploaded to private storage when you save a bill, and Pro users who turn on sync also upload their bills. You can delete your account and data from the app or at spliteasy.uncle-z.com/delete-account.html.
